The Jet Age begins. PAL’s Douglas DC-8 “Sampaguita” jetliner, registered PI-C801, departed Manila for its maiden flight to San Francisco via Honolulu, operating the first international jet service by a Philippine carrier.

A Fokker 27 carried PAL's 10 millionth passenger from Cebu to Davao.

PAL inaugurated service to Sydney, Australia, with the Douglas DC-8 "Mabuhay".
