1960s

July 16, 1960

PAL reached the 5,000,000 mark in the number of revenue passengers carried. The 5 millionth passenger flew onboard a DC-3 "El Economico" service. 

  

June 20, 1962 

The Jet Age begins.  PAL’s Douglas DC-8 “Sampaguita” jetliner, registered PI-C801,  departed Manila for its maiden flight to San Francisco via Honolulu, operating the first international jet service by a Philippine carrier.

 

May 20, 1965

A Fokker 27 carried PAL's 10 millionth passenger from Cebu to Davao.

 

October 6, 1965

PAL inaugurated service to Sydney, Australia, with the Douglas DC-8 "Mabuhay".

 

November 01, 1965 

PAL opened a service to Singapore with its "Mabuhay" DC-8.

 

November 01, 1968

PAL introduced flights to Saigon, Vietnam, with BAC One Eleven “PALJETs”.

 

June 19, 1969

PAL introduced BAC One Eleven service to Bali, Indonesia.
